Parenting Workshops and Individual Sessions for parents interested in exploring the practice partnership with their child.
How Parents Benefit:
As the pace of our world becomes more and more hurried and bewildering, we as parents can feel unprepared to keep up with it all. Carrie offers parents help through exploration of the gifts we have to offer. Parent participants leave the parent education sessions with a new appreciation for their own strengths, a deeper understanding of their children's gifts and temperament, and an action plan for happier practice sessions in the future.
OFFERINGS:
-Individual Parent Consultations tailored to the distinctive needs of each family.
-Parent Workshops
These include large group discovery and small round-table discussions. During this time we will explore our own gifts, temperaments, and energetic rhythms as well as that of our children. We will talk about motivation, passionate learning and creative practice strategies. The atmosphere will be open, personal, and creative.
-Parent Talks
-Individual Phone Consultations
-Teacher Training: Helping Parents Practice Effectively and Joyfully with their Children
How Teachers Benefit:By sharing ways to help the home practice become more harmonious, Carrie helps parents become effective partners in the Suzuki triangle. Parent training is often the missing link in many teacheršs experience, especially in the younger teacher's studio. This weakness can be transformed as parents gain a greater vision for themselves, their children, and their practice partnership. The teacher benefits by seeing increased excellence and excitement for learning in their studio-- something we all strive to achieve.

MASTERCLASSES and GROUP CLASSES
-With humor and heart, Carrie uses simple techniques that turn music lessons into a powerful vehicle for raising purposeful, self-confident and musical kids. Carrie has two goals within each lesson or group clas: that the children experience excellence and that they each also experience their own passionate learning.
MIX AND MATCH! Take a weekend or a series of afternoons or evenings and create a workshop that suits the needs of your program.

Interested in designing a weekend workshop? Read on for some ideas. Keep in mind that any parenting workshops can be combined with Suzuki violin and viola teaching and Suzuki violin teacher training, also offered by Carrie.
I really do three main things with my work: teach violin and viola, train teachers, and work with parents. I love all of them, but am the most excited about parent training work, since I feel that it is the least focused upon aspect of Suzuki exploration. The positives of bringing in an outside parent/teacher/grown-up "Suzuki kid" are numerous. The challenging logistical constraint is, however, that parents will "move mountains" when it comes to getting their children to a weekend workshop; but when it comes to attending something purely for themselves it is more difficult to get a commitment.
My suggestion when thinking about offering a workshop is to think about what you would like to get out of the experience. If a priority is to motivate and educate our Suzuki parents, the best way to make sure they really get there is to offer something for their children as well. So then the question to ask is BESIDES motivating and educating the parents, what else do we want? If we want to motivate our children and have them have a great time, that will look a little different than if our goal is to improve our teacher training. Having master classes with teachers attending and then giving time for teacher to ask questions of the trainer fits the goal of the latter, while group classes and enrichment activities fit the former.
After you answer the question of what your goal for the weekend (or evening or day) is, then it is a lot easier to decide how the schedule could look.
Ideas:
A Friday late afternoon or evening parent talk with a simultaneous play-in for the children.
Saturday- combination of events for kids and parents OR just an afternoon follow-up seminar for parents (maybe 3 hours long) OR a combination of masterclasses and parent work
OR ... Masterclasses for the children on Friday afternoon into evening, Play-in for kids while we have a parent talk that evening. Saturday- individual sessions for parents with Carrie- talking about the children taught the afternoon before.
OR ... Saturday and Sunday (or Friday also) with all of the above. Saturday dinner as a chance to do some specific talking about lessons taught with teacher and trainer.
